No matter what you are going through with God’s help, you can make it!
Last night at mid-week service, we watched a portion of the movie Courageous (great movie BTW!) and then had some great discussion and Bible reading.
At a pivotal point in the movie, Adam’s family looses their daughter in a freak car accident. As you can imagine it rocks their world! Adam takes three steps towards healing and spiritual growth (and helping his family).
Step#1: He cried out to God. Simple, right?! He prayed! Prayer helps us pause and get perspective and when we pray God hears us and provides!
Step #2: He reached out to others. After the death of their daughter, normal family life came to a screeching halt as they each dealt with the pain of significant loss. Adam reached out to his pastor and asked for help. He didn’t understand, but he wanted to trust God.
Step #3: He made a decision to help others. Adam could have done the normal thing — he could have disengaged and withdrew into his own grief. Instead, he chose to help his wife and son. Because of his choice, he grew in his relationship with God and those around him! Sitting at the dinner table with his family one night, he said, “We’re going to make it, aren’t we?” He had trusted in God and God was helping him through a very difficult season in life.
When Jesus promises his disciples abundant life in John 10:10, he wasn’t promising them a life without trouble or a “rose garden” without thorns. He was pointing us to the source of real spiritual life that sustains us in trouble or triumph.
If you are facing trouble today, cry out to God and he will make a way for you. He’ll help you grow too! And he will give you opportunities to help others!
God bless you today! Pastor Tom
